A breakdown on split heat in dogs
Normally, female dogs come into heat twice a year, with the heat period lasting about 21 days (with some individual variations). However some dogs show an anomaly in their cycle called a split heat. A split heat is when your dog shows signs of early heat (bleeding, attracting other dogs etc) and suddenly stops and goes back to normal again. After a few days or weeks, she will then resume her cycle and complete her full heat period.
